Product Description

Titanium Stub Ends, also known as titanium lap joint stub ends or titanium flared ends, are pipe fittings used in conjunction with lap joint flanges to allow for rotational alignment, easy installation, and disassembly of pipelines. They are widely used in corrosion-resistant piping systems where frequent maintenance or alignment is required.

Manufactured in accordance with ASTM B363, titanium stub ends are available in short type (Type B) and long type (Type A), with butt-weld connection. These fittings are ideal for chemical plants, marine systems, desalination equipment, and other aggressive or high-purity environments.

Note:

OD (Outer Diameter): Same as the outer diameter of the connected pipe.

L (overall length):

Long Stub End: Typically used for high pressure or heavy duty applications, used with conventional lap joint flanges.

Short Stub End: Suitable for low pressure or light duty systems to save space and cost.

Wall thickness (Thickness): Selected according to pipe series (e.g. SCH10S, SCH40S, SCH80S), usually in accordance with the connecting pipe.

End Finish: Pickled, passivated or mechanically polished on request.

Manufacturing Process

1. Raw Material Preparation
Select high-quality titanium seamless pipe or forged billet, typically Grade 2 (commercially pure), conforming to standards such as ASTM B861 or ASTM B348.
Cut the raw material to the required length according to the stub end dimensions.

2. Forming Process
Method 1: Hot Spinning (for pipe-based stub ends)
Heat the titanium pipe to the forming temperature (typically 700–900°C for Grade 2 titanium).
Use a spinning or flaring machine to form the lap joint (flanged) section.
Cool down naturally or by water quenching.
Method 2: Die Forging or Press Forming (for forged stub ends)
Heat the titanium billet to forging temperature.
Use closed-die forging or hydraulic press to shape the stub end.
Remove excess flash and prepare for machining.

3. Heat Treatment (if required)
Annealing is performed to relieve internal stress and improve mechanical properties.
For Grade 2 titanium: typical annealing temperature is 650–750°C for 1–2 hours.
Cooling may be air or water quenching depending on material grade and specification.

4. CNC Machining
Precision machining of critical dimensions including the flange face and weld end.
Ensure compliance with dimensional tolerances according to ASME B16.9 or B16.28.
Bevel the weld end for butt-welding, as per standard pipe welding preparations.

5. Surface Treatment
Perform acid pickling or chemical cleaning to remove oxide scales from forming or heat treatment.
Surface may be further treated by sandblasting or polishing upon customer request.

6. Inspection & Testing
Dimensional inspection using calipers, gauges, and coordinate measuring equipment.
Visual inspection to check for surface defects such as cracks, pits, or laminations.
Optional testing includes:
PMI (Positive Material Identification)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Radiographic Testing (RT)

7. Marking & Packaging
Mark each stub end with material grade, size, heat number, and batch number by stamping or laser engraving.
Protect each piece with plastic film or foam wrap.
Pack in seaworthy wooden crates for export, with clear labeling and documentation.
