1. Raw Material Preparation
1) Copper Core
Select high-conductivity copper such as T2 or TP1/TP2.
Requirements: free from cracks, slag inclusions, and with low impurity content.
2) Titanium Cladding
Common grades: pure titanium TA1, TA2 or titanium alloys such as Gr1, Gr2.
Titanium plates, tubes, or strips are selected according to the product shape.
3) Surface Treatment
To ensure a strong metallurgical bond, the surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned:
Mechanical grinding
Chemical pickling
Degreasing and removal of oxide layers
This ensures a clean and properly roughened surface on both titanium and copper.
2. Cladding (Key Processes)
Titanium clad copper is mainly produced by two composite technologies:
①Explosion Bonding + Hot Rolling—Most Common, Highest Bonding Strength
Process Steps:
Stack titanium plate and copper plate according to the required ratio
Lay explosive materials on the titanium surface
Initiate the explosion to generate high-energy instantaneous pressure
Titanium layer impacts the copper surface at high velocity, forming a metallurgical bond
The bonded billet is then hot-rolled through multiple passes to achieve uniform bonding and required thickness
Features:
Strong and reliable metallurgical bond, no delamination
Suitable for large-size plates and bus bars
②Hot Extrusion / Cold Drawing Method (Used for Bar, Rod, and Tubes)
Applicable To: rods, wires, tubes
Process Steps:
Insert the copper rod into a titanium tube or titanium sleeve
Perform hot extrusion to form an integral composite billet
Follow with cold drawing to achieve precise dimensions and smooth surface finish
Apply heat treatment to relieve internal stress
Features:
High dimensional accuracy
Excellent surface quality
Commonly used for titanium clad copper bars, wires, and anode rods
3. Straightening & Heat Treatment
Annealing to relieve internal stress
Straightening and shaping to required tolerance
Ensures good conductivity and bending performance
4. Ultrasonic Testing & Non-Destructive Inspection (NDT)
To ensure the bonding interface is free of porosity, delamination, or inclusions.
Inspection methods include:
Ultrasonic testing
Eddy current testing
X-ray inspection (for high-standard applications)
5. Finished Machining & Surface Treatment
According to customer requirements, the following processes can be performed:
Turning, milling, and other machining
Polishing
Degreasing and acid pickling
Cutting to specified dimensions
Custom titanium copper according to your request: drilling, bending, forming, threading, etc.
6. Final Inspection
Products can be inspected by customer-appointed third-party inspection agencies before shipment.
7. Shipping
After final quality confirmation, products are packaged and shipped according to customer requirements.
